State Umpires Examination

STATE UMPIRES EXAMINATION

State Umpires Examination is conducted every year once usually during the conduct of the Senior State Championship. However, MCA reserves the right of conducting the examination during any other tournament at different intervals. The application form of the same is uploaded on MCA’s Website. The application form with prescribed exam fee shall be submitted through affiliated district units/institutions.

Eligibility:

(i) Age of candidates shall be minimum 18 years and maximum 60 years.
(ii) Candidates should preferably be district qualified Umpires and/or have experience of officiating matches at State/ District level.
(iii) Candidates application for the examination shall be recommended by the President or Secretary of the affiliated district units/institutions of MCA. Where there is no district unit, MCA reserves the right of allowing the candidate on merit basis.
(iv) Candidates shall be conversant with English language.
(v) Candidates shall appear in the examination in white shirt/t-shirt, white trouser and shoes.

Fees:

Payment of Rs. 1,000/- shall be made in favour of Maharashtra Carrom Association. Any preferable mode of payment shall be accepted. The due paid receipt of the examination fee shall be given to the candidates immediately during the course of the examination.

Examination:

(i) Medium of examination shall be English or Marathi.
(ii) Examination shall be of 200 Marks conducted in three parts as under: (a) Written (Theoritical) - 100 marks (b) Viva Voce - 60 marks (c) Practical – 40 marks.
(iii) Candidates who secure minimum 50% marks in the written examination would only qualify for viva-voce. 50% marks in each of the three sections of the examination shall be secured to pass the examination.

Syllabus:

(a)   
Written Examination – 100 marks
Laws of Carrom – 80-95 marks
Draw & Fixtures - 5-10 marks
General knowledge - 1-5 marks
(b)   
Viva-voce – 60 marks:
Marks would be given on the basis of candidates knowledge in Laws of Carrom, practical decisions on problems presented on Carrom Board, ability to give prompt and correct decisions and overall experience in umpiring.
(c)   
Practical – 40 marks:
Candidates would be asked to officiate matches in the Championship during which examination is conducted. Performance of candidates would be judged during those matches and marks awarded to them based on the decisions given by them, their presentation during the matches, writing of score cards, punctuality & discipline, their uniform, behaviour with players and spectators, rapport with Chief Referee and Technical/Tournament Director, etc.

Certificates:

All successful candidates would be awarded passing Certificates with grades. Candidates who will score 75% and more marks (150 and more) out of the total marks will be awarded A Grade. Candidates with 60-75 % marks (120-150) will be awarded B+ Grade and those with 50-60 % marks (100-120) will be awarded B Grade.

Uniform to Qualified Umpires:

Successful Candidates will be given prescribed Uniform by MCA as per the availabilty of stock of the uniform.

TA/DA, Stay and Food Arrangements:

Candidate Umpires are not entitled for TA/DA. Stay and food arrangements will not be made during the course of the examination. However, in exceptional cases, any such arrangement made will be intimated to the candidates before the examination.

Eligibility to Qualify for National Umpires Examination:

Candidates who shall pass the examination in A and B+ Grades will only be eligible for National Umpires Examination. Those candidates have to give examination in English medium only as per the examination guidelines of AICF.
